The Russian video game development market is expected to grow by 18% in 2023. The 50 largest companies in the sector earned revenues of 45.4 billion rubles, RBC reported, citing a study by Smart Ranking.
Lesta Games received the largest revenue among Russian computer game development companies – 19.1 billion rubles (+60% compared to 2022). This company supports the games “World of Tanks” and “World of Ships” in Russia. The publisher of the game Atomic Heart, Astrum Entertainment, earned 10 billion rubles in revenue in a year.
17 of the top 50 industry players in 2023 saw revenue losses ranging from 2% to 97%.
Experts explained the market growth by the low base effect of 2022 and government investments in the game development industry. For example, the developer of the game Troubles, released in April 2024, received subsidies totaling more than 500 million rubles for the creation of the product in 2022 and 2023.
