The deal is only available in Europe, and as part of it, Apple will provide NFC access to third-party mobile wallets for free for 10 years.
Users will be able to default to third-party wallets instead of Apple Wallet and use features like double-tap to launch apps, Face ID, Touch ID, and passwords for authentication.
The changes also include access to NFC in “Host Card Emulation” mode, which allows for secure payments similar to Apple Pay but using software solutions.
Note that Apple must implement the changes by July 25. Violating the agreement could result in a fine that will remain in effect for 10 years.
