For the first time, a satellite-controlled unmanned aerial vehicle has been launched in Russia, the Roscosmos press service reported.

As part of the experiment, Geoscan and the Gonets satellite system successfully transmitted data on the drone’s geolocation, its telemetry data and an order to return by force to the launch site.

The technology was tested on the ground and at the airfield for three days in July. Six flights were carried out and specialists received 218 data messages.

The use of this technological solution will help track the location of drones in places where no other communication channels are available, the state corporation said.
