Sri Lanka’s chargé d’affaires in Moscow Pakir Mohidin Amza told RIA Novosti in an interview that the country is already preparing to introduce visas for “digital nomads” and is discussing other forms of cooperation with Russia: mutual recognition of driving licenses, attracting Sri Lankan workers in the field of textile and food production, etc.

Preparations for the introduction of digital nomad visas are “already underway,” the lawyer said: “This issue is being discussed.” In his opinion, the country may be of interest to these specialists due to its convenient time zone and its “location between East and West.”
“Under the current conditions, the digital economy is one of the development priorities of our country. As for special visas, I think they can be introduced soon. Sri Lanka is interested in attracting such people,” the lawyer said, according to the news agency.
Amza also said that Sri Lankan authorities and companies are considering attracting Sri Lankan workers to the textile, garment, construction and food industries in the Russian Federation: “These discussions are taking place not only at the government level, but also at the private level.”
The lawyer said that mutual recognition of driving licences of both countries is also possible: “If the problem is that Russians cannot use their driving licence on the island, then I think we can always discuss a possible solution.”
He also noted that tourism in Sri Lanka is completely safe. Recall that in April, free visas for Russians were tested and the validity of this regime was extended, according to the lawyer: the country can be visited for free.
