FCCPC, MetaIt misused the data of Nigerian users without proper consent, implemented privacy policies and treated Nigerian users unfairly compared to users in other regions with similar laws. According to FCCPC chairman Adamu Abdullahi, Meta’s policy It did not give Nigerian users a real choice to control or decline consent to the collection and use of their personal data.
Abdullahi stressed that Meta*’s behavior over time demonstrated multiple and persistent violations, including abusive and invasive practices.
The final decision obliges Meta to take corrective action in accordance with Nigerian law.
The penalty was the culmination of an extensive 38-month investigation conducted in collaboration with the Nigerian Data Protection Commission.
