As Bloomberg writes, citing Antigua and Barbuda’s ambassador to the United States, Ronald Sanders, the identity of the buyer is not disclosed. But it is known that he is not on any sanctions list.
The yacht is worth far more than its purchase price, says Northrop & Johnson broker Richard Higgins, who represented the buyer in the transaction. But authorities in the Caribbean state sought to sell it as quickly as possible.
The buyer is European and will probably put the yacht on the rental market, Higgins said. The deal will cover the multimillion-dollar costs of his upkeep during his arrest, which costs more than $100,000 a month.
In 2023, former CEO Eric Schmidt wanted to buy the superyacht for $67 million but was forced to back out of the deal after Guryev’s daughter questioned it.
Andrey Guryev has been suspended since 2022.
