According to the businessman, fifteen years ago his friend approached him to ask him to donate sperm at the clinic, since he and his wife could not have children.

The clinic director told Durov that there was a shortage of “high-quality donor material” and that Pavel’s civic duty was to donate more sperm to anonymously help more couples. According to the Telegram founder, it “seemed pretty crazy” to get him to sign up to donate sperm.

“Fast forward to 2024, my past work as a donor has helped over a hundred couples in 12 countries have children. Moreover, many years after I stopped being a donor, in at least one IVF clinic my frozen sperm is still available for anonymous use by families who want to have children,” Durov said on Du Rove’s Channel Telegram.

Now the Telegram founder plans to “open source his DNA” so that his biological children can find each other. Durov also said he wants to help destigmatize the concept of sperm donation and motivate more healthy men to become donors.

Pavel Durov does not usually comment on his personal life or talk about his family in interviews with the media. However, in July 2024, Forbes reported that Pavel Durov has three children from St. Petersburg woman Irina Bolgar. Bolgar herself clarified to the publication that she and Durov had a civil marriage, in which three children were born: Leah, Daniel and David.

In 2014, Lifenews published a response to its request to the registry office of the Primorsky district of St. Petersburg, where Durov’s parents lived, in whose apartment their children were registered. In the certificate published by Lifenews, the names are erased, only the first letters remain: “A” for the girl and “M” for the boy. Forbes managed to find out that the daughter’s name is Alina and the son’s name is Mikhail.

Durov himself, speaking about how he became a sperm donor, noted that he “has never been married and prefers to live alone.”
