Google has been embroiled in controversy in recent hours after pulling a TV advert for its flagship product. AI Twins which was planned for 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

In the ad, a father (off-screen) writes a letter using Gemini to his daughter, who admires athlete Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone.

“While the ad was thoroughly tested before going live, given the feedback, we have decided to gradually phase it out of our Olympic rotation,” a Google spokesperson said. The Hollywood Reporter.

“I’m pretty good with words, but this has to be perfect,” she says, before asking Gemini to help her write the letter.

This prompted negative comments on social media and from viewers, who accused such a human and emotional moment of being mechanized by artificial intelligence.

“This advert makes me want to throw a stick at the TV every time I see it,” wrote Alexandra Petri. from the Washington Post.

Google is one of NBC’s largest sponsors of the Olympic Games.
