The company said the data accessed was related to law enforcement requests, emphasizing that the data never left law enforcement and was processed promptly. However, the media wrote that the unauthorized access and late reporting prevented CFIUS from investigating and mitigating potential risks to “U.S. national security.”

Reuters notes that CFIUS has issued six penalties in the past 18 months, a significant increase in the number of sanctions compared to previous decades.
