This decision, reported in Case No. 1739 of 2024, marks a significant departure from the court’s previous position.

Irina Khiver, partner at UAE law firm NeosLegal, emphasized that this latest ruling overturns a 2023 court ruling that dismissed a similar case due to uncertainty over the valuation of the cryptocurrency. The case concerned an employee who sought compensation after her employer failed to pay her wages and benefits, including part of her salary in EcoWatt tokens.

This year, the court ruled in favor of the employee, approving that salaries be paid in cryptocurrency as stipulated in the contract, without the need to convert them into fiat money.
