Russian scientists have achieved a significant success in the field of biotechnology by cloning a cow with improved characteristics. According to experts, the newborn, named Zvezdochka, weighed 70 kilograms, twice the size of her peers at birth. The discovery promises potentially higher milk yields and larger meat sizes in the future.

This spring, a cloned cow was born on one of the farms near Krasnodar. Star, like other calves, is active, plays with people and tries various treats. But her unusual origins, including artificial insemination, make her unique. The heifer currently weighs about 200 kg and, like all other animals on the farm, requires regular medical check-ups and care.

Cloning was made possible by decades of genetic research. Scientific methods for editing the bovine genome began to develop over a century ago. Cloning involves complex laboratory procedures, including extracting eggs and somatic cells, pooling them, and growing the embryo. It is important to remember that this process takes time and resources, and although Star was born successfully, her future characteristics will only be assessed as she matures.
