Interest in foreign video hosting sites Vimeo and Bilibili has grown in Russia. Kommersant writes about this, citing information about search queries of Russian Internet users.

The number of search queries for US video hosting Vimeo in August rose to 12,000, twice as many as in July and the highest since December 2021. Requests for Chinese video provider Bilibili have more than doubled: according to data from August 5, 140,000, compared to 60,000 in July.

The popularity of Russian video hosting sites is also growing. Rutube is searched on RuNet an average of 147 thousand times a day, the number of requests on VK Video in August amounted to 591 thousand per week compared to 250 thousand in July.

The growth in popularity of these video services is associated with the slowdown in the operation of the most popular video hosting site in Russia, YouTube. The slowdown began in July; at the moment, many users are unable to load YouTube videos. The survey showed that 77% of Internet users in Russia reacted negatively to the YouTube slowdown.
