It is the nature of dogs to interact with and elicit responses from people and other animals that are part of the pack. This could be wagging their tail, looking in the refrigerator, etc.

Humans began domesticating dogs more than 30,000 years ago, and over the past few centuries, this has made them more playful and less fearful.

Dogs are essentially wolf cubs that never grow up, meaning they never reach the mental maturity of their wolf ancestors.

Some breeds are more playful than others, such as Irish Setters and English Springer Spaniels.

Dogs also use what is called “panting.” This is a specific vocalization that causes other dogs to wag their tails. This sound is only used during play.

But that doesn’t mean dogs have a sense of humor or intentionally make people laugh. If they take the stick away as a joke, they’re doing it for the sake of play. Dogs know that such a maneuver can lead to another game. They’re also good at reading our emotions and understand that laughing makes us feel better.
