Frustrated by the inadequacy and unreliability of these stations, the plaintiffs allege that Toyota salespeople assured them that refueling would be convenient. Instead, they found a fragmented network plagued by frequent outages, fuel shortages and closures.

Ryan Kiskis, a Google employee from Pacific Palisades, shared his frustrations with the Los Angeles Times, noting that the cost of hydrogen has more than doubled since the Mirai was purchased and is now $15 per gallon. With hydrogen stations so scarce, Kiskis uses his gas-powered Jeep for most trips. Other plaintiffs, including Brian Kaluwe and Irving Alden, have expressed similar frustration, calling the hydrogen fuel system a “total pain in the neck” and a “fucking joke.”

Toyota has promised to respond to the allegations in court.
