The recent trend among computer gamers is vertical mice. Such “rodents” load the joints of the hand less during prolonged use, and also reduce the possibility of carpal tunnel syndrome (nerve pinching). Another variation on this theme from a well-known manufacturer of cheap peripherals: Oklick 990MW. This wireless keyer can quickly switch between multiple devices, has an adjustable sensitivity level, and has two pairs of main keys. The best part is that the device turned out to be very affordable. In my opinion, a great option to get acquainted with the new form factor.

Equipment
The mouse comes in a relatively compact package made of thick blue cardboard. After studying it, you can get acquainted with the technical characteristics of the device. The manipulator comes with a USB – USB Type-C cable, an adapter for wireless connection, as well as instructions.

design and construction
Oklick 990MW has a vertical body of a futuristic shape: the right side is convex, the left side is concave, the mouse expands significantly towards the base. It will be convenient to use this only on the right. In the no less curved bright upper part there is an LED display that briefly displays information about the active connection, as well as a warning about the end of charging. As the main material, a soft-touch black plastic was chosen, on which fingerprints and other dirt will not be noticeable.

There are up to four main keys on the outside, though they perform two functions: the top ones left-click, the bottom ones right-click. Each pair is used for different grips: palm and claw. The far buttons are silent, and pressing the nearby ones is accompanied by a medium volume click. Each one has special rubber pads that prevent fingers from slipping. The resource of the keys is 5 million clicks.

Between the top and bottom rows is a wheel with a rubber tread. It turns quite easily, the cuts feel good. Nearby is a key that changes the sensor resolution between 1000, 1600 and 2400 dpi.

Inside there is another pair of keys responsible for the transition “Forward” and “Back”. It uses a shiny material and the click is accompanied by a soft click. Closer to the base is a mode switch button, to the front is a Type-C connector.

On the single flat (bottom) surface of the manipulator are three medium sized Teflon feet. At the front is an optical sensor, and closer to the stern is a slot to store a plug adapter. Between them there is a switch that turns on/off the manipulator. The mouse is quite large (72x111x75.5 mm) and heavy (121 g), but it fits comfortably in the hand. The quality of manufacture pleased: all the elements fit well with each other, and when the device is squeezed, there is no creak.

Connection and autonomy
The manipulator can be connected in three different ways: via a radio adapter (2.4 GHz), Bluetooth 3.0 and Bluetooth 5.0. The best quality is claimed in the first case, but in practice there was not much difference – the delay in any case will be minimal and uninterrupted. The mouse can be connected to three different systems at once, for example, to a PC, TV and tablet, switching between them with one click.

To pair, just switch the mouse to the appropriate mode. After that, simply insert the adapter into the USB connector or find the mouse in the list of available Bluetooth devices on the screen of the device you are connecting to. Oklick 990MW does not require the installation of additional drivers. The manufacturer also claims that five of the nine available keys are programmable, but I couldn’t find the appropriate software either on the official website or on the Internet.

The kit comes with a 1.5 meter flexible fabric cable with USB Type-C and Type-A connectors. That’s just that it can be used solely for charging – a wired connection doesn’t work here. While power is restored, the mouse can be used. The built-in 500 mAh battery lasts a long time – in two weeks of active testing, I couldn’t fully discharge it. After 30 minutes of inactivity, the mouse enters sleep mode for additional savings.

Impression
Taking the manipulator out of the box, I was sure that using a vertical mouse would be inconvenient, but after just a couple of days of intensive use I was convinced of the opposite – Oklick 990MW turned out to be even more convenient than traditional devices. The brush is actually less loaded and doesn’t go numb, and the control feels better. The mouse glides well on various surfaces, there were no cursor jitters or drops. The keys are conveniently located, there was no accidental pressing. I have been using the gadget for two weeks in various programs and games, I do not plan to return to the traditional mouse.

conclusion
Oklick 990MW is a solid cordless keyer, made in an unusual form factor, that really has advantages over the classic. There is a comfortable grip, practical materials and good technical characteristics, although it would also be wrong to call them gaming. The mouse can quickly switch between three devices and three resolutions, it has two types of main keys and a couple of additional ones. It is convenient that you do not have to think too much about recharging, the autonomy here is excellent. Unfortunately, the software promised by the developer to configure and program the keys is missing. However, for its cost of 1500 rubles, the available capacities of the Oklick 990MW will be more than enough.
