The rating agency Moody’s has counted 46,000 companies in the European Union in which citizens of the Russian Federation or Russian legal entities have a stake, according to the agency’s report.

Moody’s calculations included companies in which more than 40% of the ownership rights are directly or indirectly owned by Russian individuals and legal entities. For the sample, the agency used a special technique to analyse company data.

The largest number of organisations with Russian participation are registered in the Czech Republic (12,480), Bulgaria (9,581) and Germany (4,296). They are followed by Latvia (3,338) and Italy (2,539).

Moody’s compiled the rating due to sanctions that set new reporting requirements for transactions with Russian companies in the European Union. These companies are required to report to government authorities money transfers exceeding 100,000 euros outside the European Union.
