Apple has filed a new patent related to a smart ring.
This is how the company describes it:
The ring-shaped device can be worn on the user’s finger. It can include a near-field communication (NFC) protocol to simulate biometric tags or to record chain-related actions, such as taking medication. The device can also have a motion sensor that recognizes gestures and other gestures to control the appliance. A microphone can pick up voice commands and sounds to determine which fifth ring is being used.
Motion data from one device can be used to determine the gaze direction of another device so that ring commands are directed to that device. A layout of different devices that can be controlled by rings can be created using gestures, voice commands, gaze direction, and/or touch.
It is noted that the ring can support Siri: “the microphone can detect voice input and other sounds, which can be used to infer the context in which the ring device is operating.”
So far, it is only unknown whether the company will implement this patent.
