The key advantage of DRXPS is the use of manganese, which is much cheaper and more accessible than traditional materials such as nickel and cobalt. This discovery could play a key role in creating sustainable infrastructure for renewable energy storage and electrification of transportation.

The work by the team led by Professor Jiu Li shows that the new material could be a significant step towards the mass adoption of efficient and environmentally friendly batteries that can store energy from solar and wind power plants.
