The astronauts were originally scheduled to return to Earth aboard the Starliner, but were “fully integrated” into the ISS crew after engine problems and a helium leak prevented their return.
When asked if they had been abandoned by Boeing, Wilmore gave a definitive “Absolutely not,” praising NASA’s ability to tackle complex challenges in space. He noted that space missions are inherently risky and that given more time, the Starliner could have been ready for flight.
Williams, who will be the commander of the ISS, has expressed his desire to stay on the ISS for longer and return home with SpaceX later this year.
