Samba, a free software implementation of the SMB network protocol, is critical to ensuring compatibility between Unix-like systems and Windows networks. The grant will focus on development in several areas, including SMB3 Transparent Failover, SMB3 UNIX extensions, SMB-Direct, and performance improvements. It will also work on integrating modern security protocols such as SMB over QUIC.
Work on the project is planned to be completed by February 2026.
