Kuo said sales of the four iPhone 16 models during these days amounted to about 37 million units, 13% lower than sales of the iPhone 15 series during the same period in 2023. The analyst believes the main reason for the drop in demand was the lower interest in the Pro and Pro Max models.

In more detail, sales of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max declined the most – by 27% and 16%, respectively. There was a higher demand for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models compared to the 15 series. But in the end, the total number of purchases turned out to be noticeably lower.

Kuo attributes the lack of Apple AI options at the start of sales to the reasons for the low demand for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max. Support for some AI features will only be available with the release of iOS 18.1 in October and only in the United States. It is unknown when this will happen in other countries.

The first batch of iPhone 16 Pro Max sold out in 18 minutes. When ordering Apple’s most expensive flagship in the US, the company offers delivery in 7 to 10 business days. Buyers will receive their smartphones no earlier than the end of September.
