Neuralink announced that it has received FDA clearance for its new Blindsight technology for use in humans. The FDA has granted it “breakthrough device” status.
It allows to restore vision to people who have lost both eyes, the optic nerve or are blind from birth. The condition is that the cerebral cortex should not be damaged.
Elon Musk noted that vision will gradually improve. In the future, it will be possible to see even in the infrared, ultraviolet, or even radar wavelength range.
Implants for the blind have already been successfully tested on monkeys. This company is accepting applications from people.
