Tinkoff temporarily suspended outgoing SWIFT transfers in foreign currency from July 6 to October 1, the bank said in a statement. The decision applies to transfers in all currencies, including US dollars.
The company said it will "do everything possible" to ensure that transfers that have already been sent but have not yet been made are executed by Western partners "within a reasonable time."
“Tinkoff has been fighting for a long time to ensure that SWIFT transfers, which are 95% reliant on Western payment infrastructure to operate, remain a convenient way to transfer money. We are forced to admit that our efforts were not sufficient to ensure that Western partners fulfill their part of the agreements within a timeframe that is reasonable and comfortable for our clients,” the bank said.
The company added that the restrictions on foreign exchange transactions "are not a way to make money, but rather a call by the bank to change the structure of foreign exchange preferences, taking into account geopolitical realities."
Tinkoff said in a statement that all money the bank received from fees and commissions on foreign currency accounts and transfers will go to charity.
Incoming SWIFT transfers will be made at current Tinkoff rates. However, the bank warned that it does not guarantee your receipt.
Previously, complaints about SWIFT transfers through Tinkoff appeared on the network. The main doubts of the clients were related to the fact that the money is debited, but not sent to foreign banks, as well as delays in transfer times.
RB.RU sent a request about the current situation to the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, but the representatives of the regulator did not respond to the request.
