As Yulia Urozhaeva, head of the Moscow Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, told the Moscow City News Agency, they plan to involve teams from “the best universities in Russia and the world” in the work on the “Red Book” project.
“Today, tree species and breeds of big cats are already being distinguished from space images using fairly simple artificial intelligence methods. They can determine their species by the tail of the whale,” Urozhaeva said.
A Moscow government official said that traditionally work on the Red Book involves biologists walking through “forests and fields” and recording the plant and animal species they detect.
However, the authorities now want to make the work on the new publication “as effective and interesting as possible.” At the same time, the exact timing of the reissue of the Red Book of Moscow is still unknown.
