Problems arose on September 9, when users realized that Google did not allow them to register a new account: they could follow all the steps to create an account, but it was impossible to confirm the registration of a Russian phone number – an error notification appeared. They did not receive SMS to confirm the number as users said.

Although attention was drawn to the size of the incident, Google did not comment on this situation. Problems with creating and restoring Google accounts were confirmed by the Russian Ministry of Digital Development, and users were advised to create backup copies and use alternative platforms if necessary.

However, on September 27, Google responded to the incident, saying that the company was trying to maintain free services to Russians.

“We are working to resolve these issues. Google continues to strive to keep our free services available in Russia,” he said.
