We are talking about iPhone, iPad or Mac owners who come with serious and targeted threats from hackers and intruders. The new feature will be available on all the company’s major operating systems – iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS Ventura.

Lockdown Mode will reportedly help protect high-ranking individuals who, due to the peculiarities of their location, may fall victim to software developed by companies like NSO Group. It was they who created the Pegasus program, which can hack the same iPhones, despite the Apple protection system.

When the new mode is activated, the functionality of the devices will be severely limited. For example, most attachments other than images will be blocked in Messages. The same goes for link previews.

When Lockdown Mode is enabled, incoming FaceTime calls and other invitations will be blocked. The only exceptions would be those that come from a person the user has previously searched for or shared an invitation with.

Recall that in 2021, Apple sued NSO Group. Thus, the IT giant decided to “hold itself accountable” for the actions of states targeting Apple users.
