The Bookmate e-book reading service has changed its name to Yandex Books, representatives of the site told RB.RU. They called it a logical step in the development of the platform within the Yandex Plus ecosystem.

The logo retained the Bookmate design element: a bookmark with glasses. “It will continue to be a symbol of respect and love for books,” Daria Angelo, Books’ marketing director, told RBC.
Now Plus subscribers can not only listen to music and watch movies, but also read or listen to books, Bookmate representatives noted. The Plus audience is more than 33 million users and the Books catalog contains more than 250 thousand works.

In June 2022, Yandex purchased the rights to use Bookmate technologies from the Irish company Bookmate Limited (recognized by the Ministry of Justice as a foreign agent in October 2022), which decided to leave Russia in August of the same year.

Forbes also reported that Yandex received the right to use the Bookmate brand in Russia and the CIS countries, the company’s customer base and the rights to its original products.

In December 2022, Yandex launched its own book service of the same name for Plus users based on Bookmate.

In April 2024, Bookmate changed operators from Yandex Music LLC to Yandex Plus LLC.
