Microsoft has expanded production of the HoloLens 2 helmet. It will receive updates until 2027, but its replacement is not yet expected.

In 2022, the head of the HoloLens development division left Microsoft, and in early 2024 the company fired some of the employees who worked on the company.

Microsoft is now actively working to fix problems with the IVAS helmet, which is based on HoloLens technology and is intended for the US Army. In 2021, Microsoft signed a 10-year contract to supply 120,000 IVAS helmets to the US Army worth $21.9 billion.
