The fact that Sudo rm-RF was involved in the attack on VGTRK was also stated by a Gazeta.ru source in the cybersecurity market. In addition, the information was confirmed by a source from the BBC Ukrainian service in the Ukrainian law enforcement agencies.
According to Gazeta.ru’s interlocutor, hackers most likely used a type of ransomware virus that, instead of encrypting files, deletes them.
VGTRK services were subject to an “unprecedented hacker attack” on the night of October 7, company representatives told TASS. They highlighted that “there was no significant damage to the work of the media holding company.”
However, at the time of publication of the note, broadcasts of television channels “Russia 1”, “Russia K”, “Russia 24”, radio “Mayak” and others are not yet available on the website of VGTRK. Error 503 appears: “service unavailable”.
In turn, Roskomnadzor informed TASS that they currently do not detect DDoS attacks on the VGTRK infrastructure.
