Anyone who is a Windows user knows that Microsoft’s operating system comes with a list of different shortcuts. There’s something for everyone, like opening programs faster, formatting text, and even special commands for browsers.

Shortcuts in Windows Basics

  • Ctrl + One: Selects all items in the window. This command applies to text, images, files and folders;
  • Ctrl + C (or Ctrl + Insert): copies a selected item;
  • Ctrl + V (or Shift + Insert): pastes copied items;
  • Ctrl + X: cuts what is selected on the screen;
  • Ctrl +Z: undoes an action;
  • Ctrl + Y: redo an action;
  • Ctrl + F: opens a window with a search field;
  • Ctrl + Shift + Esc: Open Task Manager;
  • Alt+Tab: replaces open windows;
  • Alt+F4: closes the current window;
  • Shift + Delete: permanently deletes a file without sending it to the trash;
  • Shift with any arrow key: Selects multiple items in a window or text in a document.

Shortcuts with Windows key

  • Windows logo key: Open or close the Start menu;
  • Windows + A: open quick settings (Windows 11);
  • Windows+B: select the first item on the taskbar;
  • Windows + D: minimizes all windows to display the desktop;
  • Windows + E: Opens File Explorer;
  • Windows + H: triggers voice typing,
  • Windows + I: open settings;
  • Windows + L: locking the computer or changing accounts;
  • Windows + N: opens notification center and calendar (Windows 11);
  • Windows + P: Opens the “Project” menu;
  • Windows + R: It uses the executive;
  • Windows+S: opens the call;
  • Windows+T: switches between taskbar items;
  • Windows+U: opens accessibility settings;
  • Windows + Tab: Opens Task View;
  • Windows + Shift + S: takes a screenshot of the active window;
  • Windows + Ctrl + F: Look for computers logged into the same network.

Windows Shortcuts for Screenshot

  • Print Scr: captures the entire screen and then saves it to the clipboard;
  • WIN + Print Scr: capture the entire screen and save it in the Images folder;
  • WIN + ALT + Print Scr: Aimed at gamers, it captures the screen of a game using the Xbox Game Bar and saves it in the Videos folder;
  • WIN + SHIFT + S: Opens the Snipping Tool.

Browser shortcuts in Microsoft’s operating system

  • ALT + Left Arrow: Return to the previous page;
  • ALT + Right Arrow: moves to the next page;
  • ALT+Home: proceeds to the home page;
  • CTRL+T: opens a new tab in the browser;
  • CTRL+N: opens a new window;
  • CTRL + SHIFT + N: opens a new window in incognito mode;
  • CTRL + SHIFT + T: opens a recently closed tab (does not work in incognito mode);
  • CTRL + F4: closes the current tab;
  • CTRL + number: open the tab corresponding to the number;
  • F3 or CTRL + F: search for a term within the tab;
  • F6 or CRTL + L or ALT + D: Select the address bar.
