“In the coming months, we plan to reduce the size of our entire workforce by approximately 10%. These cuts will affect executives, directors and employees,” Kelly Ortberg, CEO and president of the company, wrote in a statement.
The company employs about 170 thousand people, respectively, the dismissal will affect 17 thousand. According to news agencies, more than 30 thousand employees are participating in strikes.
He also added that these measures, as well as the unpaid leave to which the company has sent several employees since September, are necessary to reduce costs and remain competitive in the market.
And yet, the current situation will not allow the company to launch the 777X and 767 Freighter aircraft on time. The company director also mentions it in the statement.
In the summer, the corporation also postponed the launch of the Starliner spacecraft to the ISS, and not for the first time. And the new president, called upon to confront the crisis, first fired the head of the Defense, Space and Security (BDS) division.
