The new species belonging to the Boophis genus were named B. kirki, B. picardi, B. siskoi, B. janewayae, B. archeri, B. pikei and B. burnhamae. Male frogs make unusual sounds in the noisy mountain streams of Madagascar, attracting females with their high-frequency whistles that stand out against the sound of flowing water.

According to researcher Jörn Köhler, such sounds help frogs to be heard in noisy environments where normal croaking would be imperceptible. As researcher Andolalao Rakotoarison notes, there is still much undiscovered in the region, with several hundred more frog species to be described.
