Apple’s AI research team has developed a new model, Depth Pro, powered by artificial intelligence.
It is capable of highly detailed 3D maps from individual 2D images in a fraction of a second, without relying on a data camera. Model creators led by Alexey Bochkovsky and Vladlen Koltun always Depth Pro as one of the fastest and most accurate systems of its kind.
This model can create low power cards in as little as 0.3 seconds on a standard GPU. It captures 2.25-megapixel maps at extremely fast speeds, capturing even the smallest details like hair and vegetation that are often missed by such other methods.
The development provided the real-world dimension needed for augmented reality applications, where virtual objects must be placed in precise compartments in physical spaces.
Anyone can already test Depth Pro on the Hugging Face platform. All you need to do is upload a picture. [VentureBeat]
