Google Photos has added a very useful feature which will help you backup photos on your computer without using Google Drive app. This new feature leave uploading files manually what we do from the internet and automate the process of downloading your favorite photos without lifting a finger.
Google has added a new integration to its Photos service that lets you import images and videos from any folder on your computer. This feature is activated over the Internet, where you need to configure the local folders that you want to upload to your library. Google Photos will then search and back up the files found in that location.
Google Photos web backup is similar to what you get in the Google Drive desktop app, albeit with a slight catch. Sync photos and videos with the cloud you will have to visit the Google Photos website, because this function does not work separately. This feature is intended for those who perform regular backups and do not require the application or service to run in the background.

How local backup works in Google Photos
To set up local backup, you first need to Go to the Google Photos website and click the “Upload” button. which is located to the right of the search bar. Subsequently, you will need to select the “Backup Folders” option under the “Import Photos” section. This will cause your browser to display a warning asking for permission to access your local files.

Once permission is granted, you can choose whether you want to keep the quality of the original file or download a compressed version to save space. The backup tool will display the selected folder, the number of files and their size. This window also allows you to add other backup folders to your cloud library.
There are some details to consider. To begin with, this tool searches for new files and creates backup copies of them. If you delete items on your computer, they won’t be removed from your Google Photos library.. If you mistakenly delete a photo from your local folder and restore it, it won’t be downloaded again because the file is already in the cloud.

Backups are activated automatically when you open Google Photos. and do not require additional actions. After activating the folder, you may see a permissions error. This can be solved by clicking the “Update permissions” button and selecting the “Allow every visit” option.
Backup local folders for Google Photos Available only on the Chrome browser for PC, Mac, or Chromebook.. Chromium browsers such as Edge or Brave do not currently have this feature enabled. Automatic backup is also offered in the web app, which is installed from the Utilities menu in Google Photos.
