Fish processors are massively informing retail chains about the increase in wholesale prices for seafood, by an average of 15-20%. The reasons for the price increase are said to be the increase in costs and the cost of raw materials. In particular, shrimp prices were affected by the drought in Ecuador and super typhoon Yagi, RBC writes.

According to a source from the publication on the retail market, retail chains receive notifications of price increases since mid-summer and in September-October their number increased. The head of the Union of Independent Networks, Ivan Babukhadze, confirmed that providers’ prices are indeed increasing. Perekrestok also reported that it had received notifications from all suppliers. Herring, mackerel, red fish, Far Eastern pink salmon and farmed trout are becoming more expensive.
Official statistics also indicate an increase in prices. According to the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Natsrybresurs”, in mid-October 2024 in the Far East, the price of pink salmon increased 2.6 times: up to 400 rubles per 1 kg (up from 150 rubles last year). Pacific herring gained 36.8%, pollock was down 3%. In the Central Federal District, prices for mackerel and herring increased by 36.8% and 56.6%, respectively.
Rosrybolovstvo clarified that they do not regulate prices. According to RBC, the supplier Severnaya Kompaniya (Gustafsen brand) notified retail chains that prices for chilled sea trout will increase by 6% to 12% from October 10. Other large fish processors, such as Polar Seafood Russia, also announced a gradual increase in prices for pink salmon products: 10% from October, another 10% from November and 5-10% in December.
Shrimp prices will also increase. Neva-opt will increase prices for domestic and imported shrimp by 10% to 15%, Defa Group – by 15%. Similar growth is expected in other chains, with shrimp prices increasing by 3% to 10%.
Manufacturers cite the price increase because the price of raw materials on the wholesale market has increased by more than 20% due to fishing restrictions. The Russian Sea company reported an increase in prices for pink salmon (25% large, 80% small), 20% chum salmon, 40% mackerel, 12% herring, 10% salmon and trout.
Last week, Russia’s largest poultry farms informed retailers about an upcoming increase in chicken egg prices. According to Vedomosti, the Varaksino factory notified retailers of an 8% increase in prices for its Varaksino and Selo Zelenoe brands since the beginning of November. Okskaya poultry farm announced a 5% price increase starting in November and Volzhanin already increased prices for retail chains by 5% in early October.
