Problems with Internet and television access for Rostelecom customers began around 16:30 Moscow time on Thursday, October 23. At 21:10 Moscow time, their total number exceeded a thousand. Most of the complaints came from users in the Samara and Orenburg regions and were related to poor functioning of the Internet at home.
The press service of Rostelecom informed TASS that a “third-party organization” during excavation work damaged the main fiber optic communication line in the Orenburg region.
“In principle, the restoration is scheduled to be completed at 00:00 local time,” Rostelecom said. The culprit of the accident will be held responsible in accordance with Russian law, the company added.
