You can pay your next tax return through Bizum: The Treasury Department is adding this and another new payment method.

The tax service is already finalizing the details of the next campaign tax returnwhich will begin between April and June 2025, and this year there is an important new feature that will make it much easier for users to imagine it: payment via Bizum.

Soledad Fernandez Doctor, Director General of the Tax Agency (AEAT), confirmed at the opening of the XXXIV Congress of State Treasury Inspectors that Instant payment service will be addedpresent in most banks operating in Spain as a payment method for income tax returns starting from the next campaign. Direct Debit will also be retained as before, and a payment method widely used by users will also be added: payment by card.

This is an expected move given the widespread use of Bizum for money transfers and payments, as well as the use of cards. In fact, as Fernandez explained, citing data from the Bank of Spain (BdE), 36% of the population use Bizum for electronic payments, and 32% do it using a card.

It will be possible to pay your tax return using Bizum or a card next year.

Payment using Bizum is lightweight and fast.. Users do not need to enter any bank details or expiration dates; just your phone number and authorize the payment through your banking app. Paying by card is also an easy method, given that browsers like Safari or Chrome store card details securely. This means that the user only needs to enter the verification value code (or CVV).

The purpose of introducing Bizum as a payment method is nothing less than to create “the central position of the citizen” to make this type of procedure as simple as possible. In fact, the Tax Agency is implementing other measures, such as an application for making appointments or the ability to file a return from your mobile phone.
