The other day, one of the most popular Russian TV series, “Goodbye,” was released.
Perhaps only the lazy have not seen the advertisement about it. TNT clearly made a big bet on special topics in the political field, and promoted the project as provocative.
The general producer of the project was Tina Kandelaki personally, Evgeny Nevsky was responsible for the filming, in which, as a result of the success of the series, there were only “Interns” (then there were only failure after failure). To write the algorithms in Goodbye, Alexander Fedayev and Dmitry Voevod did not have any experience in the modern world.
What could have gone wrong? Let’s figure it out. We have already watched half the season and have no more desire to do so.
Forever old, forever stupid
This is the main message of the news – endless jokes about the old age of Joe Biden, the current President of the United States. The project was published on the eve of the American elections, which will take place in the near future.
What is the series about?: Joe Biden doesn’t understand why official sanctions aren’t being enforced on the Russians. He determines the direction in Russia under the name of Ivan Ivanovich Ivanov in order to personally understand the issue and find out how it happened that everything is fine in the country.
Along the way, he meets a man who kindly helps Biden find a job as an English teacher at a local school. Agent Smith and Agent Jones, who were sent to Russia as observers of the US President under the guise of Alexander Pushkin and Mikhail Lermontov, mistake local actor Ivanovich for their president and are sent to America. And Joe Biden remains in Russia and is trying to get out of the current situation.
The new product has two problems at once: Dmitry Dyuzhev and the script. The first plays his role absolutely disgustingly and even speaks broken English for atmosphere. And about the second moment now
The whole idea of what was happening looked interesting. What if this somehow happened? An infinite number of situations and oddities could be imagined. But the filmmakers decided that this was unnecessary.
Almost all the humor in the film is built around Biden’s problems. He is very old, forgetful, constantly seeing what is not there, and that’s all. It felt like I was watching not a series, but a shamelessly drawn-out joke by Mikhail Zadornov about “well, stupid” Americans.
The joke, the perfect procedure, is no longer as funny as the first time. And when it is repeated more than a dozen times, this is already a professional deformation.
You look at the adventures of Dyuzhev (namely him, there is no smell of Biden here) and hope that sooner or later it will all end. You can’t hang around one pillar forever. After all, everything is banal, expected and even seems secondary.
The question is what details the author came up with and how he showed it all.
Dmitry Dyuzhev plays Dmitry Dyuzhev beautifully. He has a brilliant (literally) smile, a sharp wit, humble humor and powerful charisma. All this does not characterize his hero, he misspoke. It’s just as stupid a twist as everything else in the series.
Russia is not Russia at all
The unequivocal hint is too obvious
The authors of the project show the truly atmospheric modernity of Russia, especially in Russian dachas. True, there is one nuance.
For some reason, the producers decided to create an idealized country where there are no problems, and we are all jealous. It’s like watching “Our Russia”.
The people are simple, friendly, there are no crises, there are no taxes for pensioners, and in every apartment there is a portrait of Putin – there is no hint of at least some kind of reality. But everyone drinks vodka together (and then the audience puts forward the fight for the “cranberries” to the project managers). If this was irony for the Americans, then it is too thick and intrusive, which only discourages viewing. There is humor and a modern approach in the USA, they are not so sad and can even bring a slight smile, but this is rather the exception.
This series, as comedic as it is, has no problem looking at different sides of the same characters. He simply slides into second-rate humor and drowns in it.
Failure, not provocation
There is little provocative in Goodbye. This is just another series in which no one tried, except, perhaps, the make-up artists, who did a good job of creating the image of Joe Biden.
At least thank you that my episode lasts 20-30 minutes. The abundance of such “content” is not encouraging, it is only upsetting. Responsibility and corresponding ratings are now in the game 5.7 on Kinopoisk.
We don’t need such comedies.
