Some Apple devices in Russia are complaining about problems with location detection. The editors of iPhones.ru also periodically receive similar messages.
The problem is observed with GPS on iPhone and iPad with a cellular module, as well as on iPad and Mac without GPS.
The failure manifests itself differently in each location. For example, an iPhone can show a location 50-100 km (sometimes more) from the detection point, a Mac cannot determine the geoposition at all, you make a mistake or do not download data. This happens in various applications, including system ones. At the same time, determining the date and time by geolocation in iOS and macOS works without errors.
The failure does not appear to be related to the source or tracking system. Due to problems with GPS operation in Russia, users of iOS 17.5 began to complain in May 2024. In general, there are almost no complaints about the GPS device with every major firmware update.
If there is an error in determining the geoposition, there will likely be problems with GPS, which are observed in many large cities, such as Moscow, Yaroslavl, Voronezh and Rostov-on-Don, as well as on highways. Even within the boundaries of one city, GPS may work with interference in some regions, but in others it can determine the location normally.
Have you noticed a similar problem on your devices? Write in the comments, let’s discuss.
