In the early days of internet forums, when WhatsApp didn’t exist, people talked about song which has been cataloged as “the most mysterious on the Internet”.

The track in question has been around since at least the 1980s and has been circulating online since 2007, but no one was able to debunk its title or origin until a Reddit user did so.

The story is as follows. According to 404 Media, the song in question is believed to have originated from a radio station in Germany. In 1984, someone recorded a song on the radio. 404 writes that “it is generally accepted that NDR1 was a radio station and the program was called Musik Für Junge Leute or “Music for Youth.”

The truth is that in 2007, a young woman uploaded a song to online forums asking for help finding the song title and artist.

It turns out that Reddit user “gabgaskins” posted the song on “44 different music subreddits.” It later became known as r/TheMysteriousSong. This provoked a long-term search for information about the solution.

Redditor marijn1412 appears to have put the fundamental pieces of the puzzle together. Marijn1412 said that they somehow came across an old article from the German newspaper Nordwest Zeitung, which mentioned the band who wrote the song.

The song is called “Subways Of the Mind” and is performed by a group known as FEX.

“The article was about the group FEX from Kiel, which won a talent competition in Bremen in [septiembre] 1984, and their music has been described as rock with wave and pop influences,” marijn1412 wrote on his blog. subreddit /r/TMS. “It also mentioned its members, and I recognized one of them from a band called Hörfest 83 called Phret.” 404 Media reports that the band member’s name is Michael Hedrich. “I managed to contact him and ask him if he had any more old material from these bands. “Then he sent me some songs he wrote with FEX and Fret… and lo and behold, one of them was called Subways Of Your Mind,” wrote marijn1412.
