In my work, I constantly have to take photos between different devices. And almost always this process turns into a hassle: if the MacBook and iPhone still support each other using AirDrop, then each copying, for example, screenshots from an Android device to a MacBook takes a lot of time.
Indeed: there is no analogue of AirDrop, Bluetooth is often useless (MacBook does not see Android, or vice versa), cable transfer files with the File Transfer application have not worked for me personally for more than six months, and I still cannot understand the reason.
As a result, I found a utility on the Internet that became a real salvation. It’s called LocalSend and is completely free. It can be installed on any device, there are options for clients:
📍 Windows (download)
📍 macOS (download)
📍 Android (download)
📍 iOS (download)
📍 Linux (download TAR | DEB)
The most important thing (and fortunately!) is that this utility works simply excellent and over a week of constant use on all platforms (except Linux, I haven’t tested it) it has never failed.
I will say more, if you install LocalSend on your iPhone and Mac, then even AirDrop becomes unnecessary.
How LocalSend works
Created by a single developer, this utility is open source and can be found on GitHub.
When connecting between devices, LocalSend uses multiple connection protocols, automatically prioritizing which ones are preferred. Perhaps this is why you can request to make friends with a variety of devices.
The main thing is that the utility does not use the “cloud” or any intermediate services. The connection happens locally, from device to device, and files are transferred very quickly.

Now, to share screenshots from the next test Android smartphone, I just install LocalSend on the device and that’s it. Files are transferred to your MacBook in a few clicks, and you don’t need to come up with anything with cloud storage or look for a cable.
If you use a MacBook, but your smartphone is on Android, don’t be lazy to install LocalSend on your devices. Sooner or later, this lightweight utility will definitely come in handy for sharing photos, videos, or even entire folders with files.
