The investigation took the company almost a month, after which Discord reported that “due to recent changes, our services may not be available in these regions. [России и Турции] currently.” No other details are provided.
The Discord administration launched an investigation into the reasons for blocking Messenger on October 8, after Roskomnadzor restricted access to the platform due to violations of legal requirements (in early October, RKN reported that they demanded that the platform remove almost thousand prohibited materials). In Türkiye, the service was blocked a day later due to obscene posts.
In mid-October, several media outlets and Telegram channels reported that the messenger’s web pages had disappeared from the RKN registry of banned sites, suggesting that all illegal material had been removed. Representatives of the regulator responded to this by saying that there are still no reasons to unblock Discord.
Despite this, the Russian authorities do not exclude the possibility of resuming access to the service: the head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Alexander Khinshtein, said that this could happen if the platform administration removes all content forbidden.
