Previously, this function was offered for the Android test version of the messenger, and now a version for iOS is being prepared. For now, only test users can use the new feature.
To do this, you need to open the target image and click on the Share button and select the Search Internet option. The system will upload the image to Google and start searching for similar ones. There is even a possibility of discovering the original source.
As noted by WhatsApp feature researchers at WABetaInfo, this feature will protect users’ privacy if the searched image is altered or removed from visual context.
“With this update, Android users can now easily verify the authenticity of the images they receive in messages and determine whether the image has been altered, taken out of context, or used in a misleading manner. “It appears that WhatsApp aims to offer iOS users the same ability to verify the authenticity of images shared in their chats and groups as it already offers on the Android version.”
