It has long been possible to find a lost item using Locator on iPhone and other Apple devices, and now it will also be possible to share the link to such things. You can send a link to anyone, even those not in your contact list, using the generated link that will appear when you enable Share Item Location.
The link will show the location of the lost item, whether it’s a phone and not just an iPhone, MacBook, or other item with an AirTag geotag. Apple believes this will help send links to airline employees and taxi drivers to keep track of jobs.
This way, anyone with a link to the geolocation of a lost device will be able to track it, at least in theory. However, the link becomes negative after a week or after the owner receives their item. Statistics are also displayed showing how many times the link has been opened.
