In an official statement, Take-Two explained that the sale was part of a “strategic decision” to focus on its “core” and “mobile” businesses. The buyer will acquire the rights to many of Private Division’s current and future projects, including Tales of the Shire, a farming simulator set in the Lord of the Rings universe, and Project Bloom, from the developers of Pokémon Game Freak. However, Take-Two will continue to support No Rest for the Wicked, which hits Early Access in April.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick noted that despite Private Division’s success in supporting independent developers, the projects are smaller in scale compared to the company’s larger ambitions, such as the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI.
