The move was taken as part of compliance with American export restrictions aimed at preventing Chinese firms from accessing advanced technologies in artificial intelligence and media writing.
The decision comes after TSMC warned US authorities about a “Chinese customer” who was allegedly trying to get around export restrictions by ordering a chip similar to Huawei’s Ascend 910B GPU.
The suspension will impact supplies for AI and GPU solutions but not other areas such as mobile technologies or communications. TSMC’s revenues aren’t expected to thank you for that.
TSMC has not yet commented on the reports.
