According to geology professor Kelly R. McGregor, it’s all about perspective. Humans are small creatures living on a very large globe. The average height of an adult is between 1.5 and 2 meters, and children are even smaller. The width of the Earth is approximately 12.8 million meters.
When we stand anywhere on Earth, even if we are 2 meters tall or higher, we cannot see that our planet is spherical.
The only way to see the curve of the Earth is to fly more than 10 km above its surface.
But even from space it is clear that the Earth is not perfectly round. Its shape is a slightly flattened spherical or ellipsoid. So at the equator it is slightly wider than it is high.
