According to the agency’s interlocutors, if successful, the parties will sign an agreement in the coming weeks.
Sony already owns a 2% stake in Kadokawa and a stake in FromSoftware, a subsidiary of Kadokawa, Reuters writes. FromSoftware is known for the Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring game series.
According to the publication, Sony’s market value is about $114 billion and Kadokawa’s is about $2.7 billion.
Kadokawa was founded in 1945 and now includes several companies: FromSoftware, ACQUIRE, Gotcha Gotcha Games, and Spike Chunsoft. In recent years the conglomerate has had problems, writes Reuters.
Thus, in June, Kadokawa suffered a cyber attack, which caused a data leak and affected the company’s commercial activities. Two years ago, the son of the company’s founder, Tsuguhiko Kadokawa, resigned as president after being accused of bribery related to the Tokyo Olympics.
