At the opening ceremony, Deputy Governor of the Novosibirsk Region Irina Manuilova emphasized that environmental problems today are integrally linked to all kinds of technological projects. The new laboratory will focus on research on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, developing technologies for smart cities and rational use of resources. Particular attention will be paid to developing the Arctic in a way that creates minimal impact on the environment.
Additionally, the laboratory will interact with the NSU Climate Center, which will open in 2021. The center studies greenhouse gases, manages a carbon testing site and is involved in the creation of carbon farms on an area of 20 thousand hectares in the Novosibirsk region. The center also develops training programs to improve the skills of experts in the field of ecology.
