Apple has ended its free Butterfly keyboard repair program almost 6.5 years after its launch. Now button replacement will be paid for for all users.

The Butterfly keyboard first appeared on the 12-inch MacBook in 2015 and was then included in all MacBook models through 2019. Despite several design changes, reliability problems were never resolved.

As a result, Apple abandoned the use of this device, returned the traditional “scissors” and apologized to users.
